Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) occur in 1 in 5 pregnant mothers, and 1 in 7 new mothers. Non-birthing parents are vulnerable to PMADs as well. Experts agree that these statistics may be drastically underestimated, as many mothers don’t seek help. Despite the pervasiveness of mental health issues during the perinatal period, most medical and mental health professionals receive very little education about parental mental health. In this webinar, clinicians will gain an understanding of the broad range of PMAD presentations and diagnoses, risk factors for developing a PMAD, and the treatments available. Participants will also be introduced to the impact that Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders can have on members of the adoption community, and ethical considerations for professionals supporting expectant, birth and adoptive parents. Attendees will leave with the knowledge and tools to support parental mental health during the perinatal and postpartum period.
Zoom link will be provided to all attendees after registration.
The Office of Continuing Education at Rutgers School of Social Work is a ASWB national CE provider and will provide 3 Clinical CE hours for Arizona, New York & New Jersey social workers and professional counselors.
