Abby & Harris

We have always known that we wanted to adopt.  We both adore children, and especially enjoy time spent with our little nephews and niece.  We have so much love to share and we can’t wait to help our child grow, learn, and explore.  We come from loving families who are all so excited for a new baby.

She enjoys making pottery, walking her dog, yoga, skiing, and cooking.

Fun Fact
Abby loves animals and has always had some kind of pet: dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and fish.  She grew up riding horses and grooming them.  Her all-time favorite food is chocolate chip cookies.  She has been working with children since she was 16 years old as a camp counselor, swim teacher, babysitter, and elementary school teacher.  Over the course of her career, she has taught over 500 students in third through fifth grade.

About Harris

Job Description
He works for a large automotive manufacturer on devising new ways for electric vehicles to help the environment and improve our lives.

Hobbies
He enjoys science and technology, also has a passion for ceramic and glass art, and loves learning more about different cultures, history, and traditions.  He likes to explore the outdoors and particularly enjoys cycling and snowboarding.

Fun Fact
Harris also grew up in a very animal friendly home (multiple dogs and cats, lizards, ferrets, ducks, etc.).  He’s always loved the water and grew up learning about marine biology while at summer camp.  He enjoys snorkeling and SCUBA diving and even spent a month working as a deckhand on a replica of the infamous HMS Bounty.  Harris also lived abroad in Iceland for a couple years and most recently went back to visit friends and an erupting volcano (from a safe distance).

Our Lives

We love traveling to new places and having adventures, and we also enjoy cozy time spent at home.  Over the past few years, we’ve visited Colorado, Hawaii, Iceland, the Azores, Puerto Rico, and the Rocky Mountains in Canada.  We love Vermont and spend many weekends there with family and friends: skiing, biking, and trying out new restaurants.  We also spend a good deal of time visiting our parents in Connecticut.  Harris’ family has a lake house, which is great for barbecues and going out in the boat in the summertime.

Our Family

Abby is very close to her mom, Connie.  Connie is very outgoing and has a busy social life.  She’s so excited to be a grandma and has been putting together a baby basket ever since learning about Abby’s decision to adopt.  Abby has an older half-brother, Larry, who lives in Virginia with his wife, Sarah.  They have four children (Abby’s niece and nephews), who are all in their twenties and live throughout the country.  She doesn’t see that as much as she’d like, but everyone is very close.  Abby also has several best friends, and most of them are also teachers with children.

Harris come from a tight-knit family of five.  His kind and generous parents Phyllis and Len are not too far away on a lake in Connecticut.  Robin, his sister, lives with her family in Ohio where her and her husband Anthony work as a college professors and writers.  And his brother David and family live nearby, just outside of NYC.  David researches cancer treatments, and his wife Melissa works as a child psychologist.  Harris’ has a total of four nephews from ages 10 to 18, and they are all super fun and bright.  Harris’ favorite family event is celebrating birthdays (doesn’t matter who’s) with a Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake from Carvel.

Final Thoughts

We look forward to becoming parents, and we’re truly honored and grateful that you’re considering us as an adoptive family.  We are committed to providing a loving and nurturing home for a child.
