Best Practices in Supporting Expectant/Biological Parents Considering Adoption – Lessons learned from National Surveys, Studies and Interviews with Birth Parents.

In the fall of 2022, the National Council for Adoption conducted an online survey for birth parents who had made an adoption plan in the US. During the same year, The National Opinion and Research Center at the University of Chicago in partnership with Spence-Chapin released their longitudinal study of birth mother clients who received services from Spence-Chapin between 2006 to 2020. Common themes emerged from those respective studies and were again echoed in some more recent interviews that Spence-Chapin conducted with previous birth mother clients. In this webinar, we will discuss these common themes and findings and share first-person birth parent interviews which will inform best practices in supporting birth parents in their pre- and post-adoption journeys.

This webinar now offers 1 Free CEU (1 hour) for Licensed Social Workers provided by Albany Medical Center (Albany Medical Center is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0522.) Those who have already received credit for this topic cannot receive another credit for the same 3-year period.
