While we grew up on opposite sides of the country (Alyssa in New Mexico and Alec in Manhattan), our paths brought us together in 2011. Alyssa had recently graduated from NYU and had a job in social work. Alec was writing plays while working at Big Brothers, Big Sisters. 7 years, another graduate degree, 6 months of backpacking, 2 career changes (one each!), and 3 apartments later, we figured it was about time we got married. Now, another 8 years on, we are ready to grow our family. Clearly, we don’t rush into anything!
Growing up with two foster siblings and connected to many adoptees, Alyssa felt a strong pull toward adoption over pregnancy which has carried over into adulthood. Eager and motivated to be a father, Alec took the lead researching agencies and here we are! Becoming parents through adoption is an incredibly exciting next step in our lives and we can’t wait to welcome a baby into our home.

Our Lives
A big part of our life revolves around adventure and traveling. We love to see the world, gain new perspectives, and interact with as many people from different cultures as we can. While we visit other countries and states when the opportunity arises, our regular travel out of NYC involves visiting family in Long Island, Upstate NY, or New Mexico. When not traveling, our home base is an apartment on a quiet, tree-lined street in Brooklyn.
We generally spend nights at home watching movies or playing games. On weekends we like to go to shows, museums, botanic gardens, and get together with friends and family whenever possible. Our home is built on love, empathy and communication. Our everyday lives can sometimes become hectic and overwhelming, but as long as our home is a safe and nurturing place, we know we’ll be strong enough to tackle whatever challenges come our way.
Our Family
Alec’s close biological family lives in NYC and includes his mother, his brother and his family (wife and two sons), his half brother and his family (wife and three sons), and his cousin and his partner, all of whom we spend a significant amount of time with. We also spend a lot of time with his local chosen family, including his best friend from preschool and his family.
Alyssa’s biological family is split between the Eastern and Western parts of the United States. Visits with them are further in between, but regular, and they remain a significant part of our lives. Many of Alyssa’s cousins live in the tri-state area and are starting to have children. We are excited for our child to grow up with them. Getting together with family who live close by for Thanksgiving and Christmas is one tradition we’re looking forward to introducing our child to.
Final Thoughts
Thank you for letting us into your life and entrusting us with your baby. We promise to provide a safe, loving, and nurturing environment that supports our child and allows them to grow into a caring and thoughtful adult.
