We’ve been together for more than 15 years, since meeting at NYU journalism school in 2009. What began as a college romance quickly grew into a lifelong partnership—together we’ve built a home, careers, and a community in New York.
Andre works as a Team Leader and Editor at Bloomberg News, where he helps lead data journalism projects across the newsroom. Alex is Deputy Executive Editor at The Daily Beast, overseeing news coverage and mentoring young writers through an internship program. We both enjoy our work and feel fortunate to have stable, fulfilling careers, while having the flexibility to prioritize family life.
From our earliest days as a couple, we talked about raising children. Adoption has always felt like the right path for us: a way to share our love while providing a child a safe, supportive home. Over the past year, we’ve done research, spoken with friends who are parents, and prepared ourselves for this next chapter. We come from close, loving families, and are excited to extend that same warmth and sense of belonging to the child we welcome into our lives.
We’re so grateful you’re reading our profile and considering making us a part of your family’s story!
About Andre

Job: Senior Editor and Team Leader, Data Journalism
Hobbies: Crosswords and logic puzzles, science fiction novels, and riding my Peloton bike
Fun Fact: Andre is a big fan of puzzles—he’s now completed more than 5,600 crosswords from the New York Times archives and tackles a few more every day. He also enjoys jigsaws, reading science fiction novels, and the occasional animated show. He loves a beach day, happily stretched out in the sun with a book.
About Alex

Job: Deputy Executive Editor
Hobbies: Baking, reading, board games & word puzzles, swimming. I love creative pursuits more broadly, across art and design.
Fun Fact: Alex grew up in a competitive game-loving family and still enjoys pulling out a Clue board or deck of cards. He enjoys baking Welsh cakes, swimming, and the occasional spa day. Reality TV is his guilty pleasure, and a life goal is to be cast on “Survivor,” though a ‘fun fact’ in particular is that he gets sunburned in about 10 minutes, so the beach is not always his favorite spot 🙂
Our Lives
We’re fortunate to come from very close families that always emphasized education and cultural learning. We travel several times a year to spend time with our loved ones in the U.S. or across Europe, and are often on the lookout for fun cultural activities, such as a Broadway musical or a museum visit. (Andre gets free access to almost every museum in New York City through his job.) We also really prize our home life, and have put a lot of thought and care into creating a comfortable and welcoming space where we are happy spending lots of time, whether that’s doing remote work, making a lovely dinner, or just relaxing on the couch with our two beautiful cats, Bea Arthur and Madame Mim.
Our Family
Our families are spread across the U.S. and Europe, but all are close-knit and very supportive of our adoption. Andre’s mother and sister live in New York, and we see them often for weekends, holidays, and summer trips; we’re also really close to Andre’s mother’s family back in Portugal, and we spend holidays with them most years. Andre’s father, half-siblings, and the rest of his extended family live in France, with whom we stay connected via weekly Sunday video calls. He also has cousins with young children nearby in Westchester, whom we visit regularly. Alex’s parents live in Southampton in the U.K, and his sister’s family, including a young nephew, are near London; we see them at Christmas and for visits each year, and often do family video calls (sometimes playing online board games together).
Here in New York, we also have a wide circle of longtime friends from school, work, and our neighborhood—including many with young children—who feel like extended family. Our future child will grow up surrounded by love, support, and plenty of cousins, playmates, and traditions.
Final Thoughts
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We have so much respect for the love and courage behind your decision. For our part, there’s nothing more important and meaningful we can do than provide a child with a family and home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional support.
